Wrist pain in tennis

Grip, spin and off-centre contact load the wrist through every shot. I treat tennis wrist pain with hands-on remedial soft tissue therapy in Paddington, Brisbane, working the wrist and forearm together.

Why tennis loads the wrist

Generating spin and gripping through contact load the wrist and the forearm muscles that control it, shot after shot. Off-centre hits add a jolt on top.

The forearm link

A tight forearm and an irritated elbow attachment are usually part of the picture, so I treat the whole chain rather than just the joint.

How the treatment works

Assessment

I take your history, watch how you move, and use orthopaedic testing to rule things in or out. Black and white: positive or negative.

Treatment

Hands-on soft tissue work, with real time on the table. I treat the whole area involved, not just the point of pain.

Education

You leave understanding your own body. A few sessions in, you can tell me what is happening and why. That is what keeps it from coming back.

Common questions

Is it a sprain or worse?

I do not diagnose fractures or significant ligament tears. If your symptoms suggest something that needs imaging, I will refer you on. Otherwise I assess and treat the soft tissue involved.

Is this a sports massage?

No. This is clinical treatment for a specific problem, not a general relaxation rub down.

Settle the wrist properly
